Abstract

In all languages around the world, there is a way to negate the positive parts, which is an inseparable part of those languages. Azeri language is no exception, and studies have been conducted on the negative aspects of this language, however the syntactic aspects of this category have most been investigated, there is definitely a need for more detailed investigation in morphological domain. For this purpose, the data from intuition of the writer and other speakers of this language and sentences from three books: The poems of Shahriyar, Atalar Suzu and the story of East of Forest which consist of negative sentences were gathered then explicit and implicit negative morphemes were studied. So negative category was investigated morphologically in this paper, and it was noted that the morphemes of [ma] and [mə] are as signs of explicit negation in Azeri language. In the present research, it is depicted that these morphemes in terms of the tense of the verbs transfigure into the forms of [m] [may] [məy] [məz] [maz]. In contrast to explicit negation, there is implicit negation. That is, the sentence takes a negative meaning through some verbs. The adjuncts also play a role in the negative process. In addition, some of these morphemes have been transferred from Persian and Arabic languages to Azeri language.
